Refilling the coolant - capacity issue

Post by fgclark123 on Sun 13 Jan 2019, 4:36 pm

Hi there. I see the coolant is 2 litres in the main, with 0.7 litres in the reserve.

I just emptied the coolant and refilled, but only about 1.5 litres went in the main.

What could be causing this? Coolant left in the radiator?

Thanks a lot

whilst I'm asking, any way to stop petrol coming out of the fuel tank ? It's on its back, but petrol keeps bubbling out. I have a rubber grommet in there for now. cheers! bloody messy job this!

You could have airlocks holding coolant in the water jacket around the engine, thermostat will be closed when you drained it, I wouldn't worry too much. Just re-fill, get it up to temp to open thermostat, let it cool down and check level again.
Ref your fuel leak, keep the tank right side up with fuel tap off! If it's leaking right side up, the diaphragm rubber may be getting tired.
