OIL PRESSURE Empty OIL PRESSURE

Post by ANDYC on Sun 13 May 2018, 1:55 pm

I would like to pose a question to anyone out there that has a genuine Honda workshop manual for our steed of choice.
The Haynes manual gives the oil pressure as 34psi with the oil at 80 degrees, could this be a misprint?
This seems very low to me as every other Honda that I have worked with seems to be around the 70-80psi mark.
It's not been noticable when the oil warning light is either on or off, but I would like to be fitting a guage to my track bike so knowing the range would be helpful. scratch
As always thanks for your help in advance.

Yes, that's where I got my info from.
Just hoped someone could confirm it from the genuine manual.

Take off the sump and check the oil pickup screen is clear.
Although if the engine is stopping then the damage will be done already.
How exactly is the engine stopping?
Does it run until it gets hot? Does it idle at the correct speed?
If the idle speed is too low then the light will stay on and the engine will cut out too. Try turning up the idle speed and see if the light will go out.
What's the oil like in there?
Just a few things to consider before my first suggestion, past experiences have taught me that careless use of silicon or thread locking compound end up blocking the pickup screen.

The low oil pressure is only an indication so I assume the engine is overheating with no oil getting to all the moving parts, the water temperature gauge stats normal

I would say that a complete stripdown is the best way to check the damage and cause I'm afraid.

French workshop manual of ETAI publisher gives a pressure of 2,4kg to 2,000 rev.

also the honda factoy manual gives, on page 1-5:
235 kPa (2.4 kglcm'i in
2,000 min- '(tr / mn) (80 ° C)

Thank you,  that confirmed that the 34 psi @ 2000rpm is correct then.
