Silver engine casings? Empty Silver engine casings?

Post by Mr Messy on Fri 04 May 2018, 7:58 pm

Hi
Got a 2001 CB totally standard, just noticed a few small areas lost their finish.....fine grade steel wool and WD40 got the patches rubbed down.

Was gonna have a go at spraying and blending in to the surrounding area (no plans to take engine out - just in situ).

Any tips on spray/colour/blending-in gratefully received!
Cheers

Honda NH146M is the engine colour though I believe that simoniz engine enamel aluminium is a pretty close match

An owner before me used a paintbrush.
It still has the odd bristle in it.

Got it sprayed up....the curing is more complicated than I'd thought! Nearly there now.

Haha I wouldn't recommend me mate!

Far from perfection but considering I just masked everything up and did it in the frame with nothing removed it has tidied it up.
Ended up using Halfords own VHT aluminum spray, pretty decent match; then a clear VHT lacquer....still on with the curing which is bit of a slow going faff!

It's improved it so I'm happy, its 17 years old after all.

With hindsight maybe straightforward enamel paint might have been an easier option. In the retail world of today I never found any in a shop but could've got it online....I wanted it without waiting for post.
So the VHT paint plus seperate VHT lacquer were both bought in a shop on the same day but the lacquer curing is definitely a faff. Result is ok, hope it stays like it!
