speedo drive woes

Post by Jameshambleton on Sun 29 Apr 2018, 1:50 pm

When I had the front end of my bike apart yesterday I used a solvent to remove the bad grease in the speedo drive.
I removed the red drive gear and re-greased it. Since then the speedo at best at maxed out at 40mph and it jumps up and down even though my revs say I'm doing a steady 70ish. Upto 30mph ish it's fine for the most part and anything above that it doesn't work properly.

I've restripped it today and all the drive teeth are in good order with no cracks ect. And the drive spins strongly though once the speedo cable is attached and it is in position to lead upto the clocks it sometimes stops spinning even though the wheel is spinning. I've removed the speedo cable and it's well lubricated, in one piece and spins easily.

Any suggestions?

Got it sorted, the piece of pressed metal that sits in the wheel had gotten bent so it wasn't catching the speedo gear properly. Bent it back out and now works perfectly
