Seems like just because he overtook an absolute psycho, he paid with his life.

The kind of people out there - absolutely terrifying. Ride safe.

Fair play to Bob Whitehall for sticking at it.
Feel for the riders family, especially as it was Christmas.
There are some Nutters out there.

The way he kept saying, "I don't remember", it's just disgraceful. I mean at least bloody well own the fact of it, rather than sit there pretending. He deserved the extra year. To think he'll be out in 4 given good behaviour though...

You just never know. The policeman did a great job, you're right.

You can watch this on iPlayer "the Crash Detectives" episode 2

In episode 1 a car pulled out of a garage forecourt without stopping and looking and caused the death of the bikes pillion passenger. Again the police did a great job to get the evidence and convict.

"I don't remember" and "no comment" is the criminals mantra which puts it on the Police to provide evidence that puts the case beyond reasonable doubt.  Watch the cop shows and see how many cases are dropped or no further action taken.

"To think he'll be out in 4 given good behaviour though..."  Yes, and that's also 4 years of his driving ban done.  It should be started when he's released IMHO !

The situation is clearly manslaughter, if not murder, so... how can sentencing be so light?

I'm just trying to think what I'd do if a car came right up close behind, what would be the best option? Indicate left, take a hard left and slow to a stop on the hard shoulder I guess... possibly followed by a u-turn and escape the wrong way up the road. doesn't bear thinking about.

I'll check out that show. All good reminders to stay vigilant.

That's really awful. You only have to hope that if the worst happen you end up with a crash investigator like the one described in the report.

Makes you wander what the best thing to do if the car you are busy overtaking starts to speed up - I think the answer is to either accelerate or brake but either way, put some distance between yourself and the nutter in the car.

Advice I was given many years ago:

Don't exceed the speed limit if the car your passing accelerates.  Ease off and fall back to a safe distance moving left when safe to do so.

Continuing to accelerate would be thought of as an invitation to race.

If the car then slows to match or reduce your speed he is a nutter and baiting you, don't bite and remain a safe distance.

Very good advice that, especially on our bikes which don't have a massive amount of acceleration at that speed. Ride safe!

Sounds like this guy was right up his tail pipe though.
I can't believe how short the sentence is for killing someone.

I agree Grarea, shocking. It isn't death by dangerous driving, it's premeditated violence.

I still can't believe ihe sat on the truth like that, just said "don't remember". I mean ffs there's a family and kids without a father, and you "don't remember". How can you even exist like that.
