I had too much luck with new exhaust.

Post by Hcb on Thu 07 Dec 2017, 10:51 am

Hi!

As you know, I was looking for a decent exhaust for my CB500, but I only found versions of the original one, and other exhaust from diferent sellers..

But looking on ebay, I found an original exhaust direct from the seller honda from germany.

The price.. 479 € !! about 422 £..

I sent an offer to the seller, worth €130.. And he accept!!!

Now, I have a new original exhaust, for an incredible price. The only disadvantage is that the motorcycle does not emit any kind of noise, only the engine. It's kind of boring! But I have no complaint.

Want a pair on the fighter but I might get persuaded to go with another brand depending on what I can get the cheapest. My ebay search routine goes, beowulf, akrapovic, sc project, blue flame

I can live with the standard can, it's the header pipes I might need next year, I welded lumps into the holes in mine, they'll last a while but......once a bodge, always a bodge.

That's quite a deal!

The original exhaust is good if you have to go to work at 5am and don't want to wake anyone up...

I see that many of you have exhaust from other manufacturers (fuel, beowulf, etc ...)

I have used some of these exhausts and none has given me the performance of the original.

Maybe it's the configuration of my bike, but I prefer not to risk it and use the original.

P.D : Sorry for my english!!!

This is not surprising: I suspect the back pressure from the original exhaust is used to modify the power delivery (i.e. it adjusts the power (dyno) curve), so it certainly makes it feel different. I'm not sure that any exhaust makes much difference to the maximum power...

no they just make it sound faster. if you are after more power then you will have to seriously work on the engine/ jetting etc

I found with cb 500v with the sp engineering exhaust cars move out of way ... with standard on cb 500s  they dont take notice...final straw was last week a dosy pedestrian nearly walked in front of me...breaking a red light.... think is a case of noisey exhausts save lives

This quote is hardly relevant in the uk as the inspections are basically none existent. On the continent it's a completely different matter.

Anyway bringing it back onto topic, there was a db meter here, tread depth checker, the lot. They saw the baffle in my exhaust so didn't db test it but I saw them db test someone else's too. Soon as I got back off the ferry in dover the baffle was back in my topbox and that was that.

Loud exhausts are better in moderation, there is loud and obnoxiously loud... the fighter will hopefully be the latter of the two!
