Choke won't stay on, keeps spring back

Post by Arfa on Tue 25 Jul 2017, 9:08 am

Got a CBF500, but I assume the choke part will be common to the CB500. When I pull the choke knob out to warm engine, it keeps springing back. Bit of a pain to have to keep holding it out whilst it warms up. There's definitely some damage to the cable mount by the knob which the prior owner has secured with a cable tie. Dunno if this is the problem, or if it's something else. Be good to know for sure before I order a new choke cable (easy to fit?)

Still seems to need a bit. Revs just cover around 800-900rpm and it keeps threatening to cut out, and often does after a little while. Once it's warmed up for 2-3 minutes, it's fine and it nicely idles around 1400rpm odd, so I'm reticent to tweak the idle speed up.

Try tightening the plastic nut holding the choke cable to the cylinder head bracket, I believe it relies on friction to hold the choke plungers in position.

Fwiw, I'd almost be tempted to tweak it *down* - iirc book is 1250rpm @ idle.
