£1990 for CB500 w/ 3k on it

Post by trevor machine on Wed 01 Feb 2017, 2:20 pm

Stuart Rafferty in York is selling a CB500 w/ 3k miles on it for just under two grand. Obviously it's in ex cond - with paperwork. It comes with a rack with hard panniers and has that rarely seen full faring - the kind that fits over the round light road bike version. Bike's yellow. Stuart is primarily a mechanic but does also sell the odd bike here and there.

Just thought I'd mention it - it was interesting to see a CB500 with such low miles this late on. They're still out there!

You'd need to really really want this bike. Just think of all the other machines there are out there at that price. For example

Yes you can get a wide variety of machines for that money, very good suggestion beresford, it a hard call it a salty price for a cb, but i guess a bike is only factory original once ( then again jerryfudd did an amazing restoration on  his cb) it come down to ....heart or head!

It will be a nice bike, but the difficulty is that it's value will plummet if it gets used. Normal mileage CB500 s don't have that problem so much.  Very Happy

Exactly. 2k buys quite a lot of bike. For instance - a pretty decent vfr750, from the same era as our cb500. Probably not with 3k on it mind you - but maybe 30k.

As I think has been said the trouble with paying top dollar for a low milage bike is as soon as you use it that extra money is down the pisser... better off just finding a reasonable milage bike that has been well maintained.

btw cheers wornsprockets..... mine has done 44k and is enjoying its retirement of only seeing limited milage and perfect weather Smile

Paying a premium for a low millage bike and then putting miles on it can be thought of as a 'waste' of money, but if you put 50k on it and it depreciated £1000 you might actually feel like you got your moneys worth. Thats only £20 for each 1k of riding. Thats a lot of fun for the money and still a lot less than your 2017 Ford Fiesta is depreciating just sitting on your driveway.

true, but then you could pick up a 30k one and still happily put 50k on it with the way these things run Very Happy

... or buy one with 50k for £500 (if you are lucky) and still put 50k on it!

Probably wouldn't look too nice but you would have £1500 to spend on paint and new bits to make it look better Smile
