what - if anything - are you doing to 'winter proof' your cb500?

The front bolt will easily come out and the engine won't drop as it's held in place by two other bolts. Only issue that you might have is if you remove the bolt entirely is getting the spacers back in, though if you keep rotating the bolt from time to time it'll keep it from becoming seized in as it's the metal reaction from the steel and aluminum than rust itself.

Mine drops by about 2.4mm if I remove it in it's entirety.

I could of course 'twat it with a hammer' to force the bolt back into place, but prefer a bit of jacking refinement, for fear of knackering the threads on the leading edge of the bolt.
