Post by Beresford on Tue 27 Sep 2016, 11:01 pm

Can anybody tell me what this type of nut is called, shown on this mirror stem, and where can they be bought?

Mirror adaptor bolt? Though that one is not showing the threaded part. Try dealers, David Silver Spares, eBay etc.

I have tried calling it everything I can think of -

Mirror stem nut

Mirror tube nut

stem lock nut , thread covering nut, sleeve  nut, etc.etc. but have drawn a total blank on ebay and amazon. Even just M10X1.25 nut brings up lots of nuts but nothing like this. Very frustrating.

That's the kind of thing I am looking for. That's for 17mm stem, I wonder if they have a 10mm stem size? Mind you at the price they are asking I'd be much better off buying this

keeping the nuts, and throw the stem away !!

Amazon option is for a 10mm stem; the 17mm is the outside measurement for a spanner.

eBay definitely better value!

I think we're both wrong, it says 12mm stem, but you are right about the value !!
It's just that I had a pair of 10mm stainless steel stems made for me, but one of the nuts which I'd rescued from an old mirror got wrecked and where does one get them without actually having to buy a new mirror !!

I missed that Embarassed. Assumed thread and stem would be straight.  Another seller in Germany has a mirror nut 14mm M10 x 1.25 mm for 10 mm stem at couple of Euros, but the shipping is another 10 Euros.

Your eBay stem with nuts is probably best, and will give you a matching pair.  It looks like that stem has the same width as the threads, but maybe worth asking first.

I guess the part isn't common anymore as most mirrors now use a rubber cover over a normal nut and adaptor.
