What did you do with your CB500 today?

No, the tarmac looks and feels very old, and both times hasn't melted but has literally crumbled under the weight of the bike. A decent puck undoubtedly help, but at this point I'd rather just park it on the road, off the shit tarmac completely.

The first time it was on the centre stand, and a hole formed under one side, making it topple to the right, this time it was on the kickstand, tarmac crumbled away and it fell to the left.

Removed Kappa topbox rack.
Installed Krauser pannier rack.
Following that, I discovered I'd switched round the wires to L/R turn signal lights. Doh! Fixing that is a job for tomorrow...

I went to scotland in the car with my mum to get this engine from a guy called Dave, very knowledgeable I learnt a few things from him.
Anyway this is North Berwick, crystal clear water and some great roads to ride. I might have to spend a weekend there camping on the bike.

Put in the new engine and carbs today, seemed to have turned over fine but does have some smoke coming from the 2nd cylinder but I think it's just something burning off rather than an issue.

Faced with a scenario like this in the past, I have to ask if you got a sales receipt from the vendor. If you notify the DVLA of an engine change they can ask for papers to show it wasn't a stolen engine.

Guy who I got it from is self employed bike mechanic and is really knowledgeable. He knew the old owner of it, I have a receipt and have paid through paypal. I can't be bothered notifying the dlvvy-la since I have no intentions of ever selling the cb and they'll likely mess it up anyway.

You are right they will probably mess it up - but you should get it changed (or at least try to) for insurance reasons - as you might know, they will use any excuse not to pay or to charge you more, best not to give them a chance (the bastards!).

Well the cb500 is a go go go, for now. This runs so much better than I ever remember my other one did. I have a +2 rear sprocket fitted for now as it was for my cb400 but it didn't fit because of the chain links. I've also done a streight swap and I've not put in the restrictors and I'm running the same setup as before and there isn't a dead spot about the 5k rpm so I'm happy. Just done an oil and filter change and I'll see how it goes.
I'll explain why I've not fitted the restrictor in another post soon but for now I need to fix a couple of coolant leaks but I'll just keep it topped up with water and do a few engine flushs while I'm at at. I'm running 100% water at the moment.

Good to hear you're up and running James.  Don't leave it just with water for too long.

JerryFudd has converted his to waterless coolant, and dumped the expansion bottle.  May be worth considering?

Glad you got the bike going again.

It's not just the freezing (which won't happen at this time of year, even in Yorkshire :) you need to worry about - the 'antifreeze' also raises the boiling point of the coolant, plus it has corrosion inhibitors, which are actually important.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll have it back to full health in no time.

Just had a little run about on her this evening but I wish it was cb400sf that inline 4 would be so much fun. Anyhow I took a corner a little too quick much have only been a 5 second scrape but the road surface was really rough, toes and ankle hurts now, toe slider is considerably warn along the length of it and the hero blob is well on its way down.

I thought antifreeze had to have corrosion inhibitors in to act against the ethalineglychol? Race bikes on track are only allowed to use pure water and it doesn't seem to bother them too much.

Oh and my luck with bikes is back to normal my new Fehling rack has snapped so no change with my luck there then.

Maybe water just evaporates easier, leaving the track free of slippy fluids in the event of crash damage?

Today I made a 280 round trip to collect a 2nd top case for my BMW 1200.. Yes, it's well made, but is it REALLY worth £510, more if you want it with a lock?!!

Anyway, I have a second hand one now, which suits me just fine.

Saw this chap on the A1 too.  Was doing a decent speed for a CB5
