Hoping For a miracle - 6v C70 Conversion To 12v

Post by Anigai on Wed 03 Aug 2016, 11:30 pm

What a weird looking c90 forum oh hang on a second................

Jokes aside I'm in a bit of a pickle.

I bought a rebuilt 6v Honda C70 engine with contact breaker points to replace my 12v C90 engine while I rebuild it but should have done more research beforehand as converting the engines to 12v looks to be more trouble than it's worth according to the C90 forum lads.

Any advice guys for someone who blew 300 euro on this thing thinking that replacing the flywheel and stator was a done deal for a 12v engine conversion?

I've a horrible habbit of stuff like this when it comes to bikes..........

It's probably a bit late now but the best bet would've been a Lifan 110cc 4 speed semi auto. They slot straight in, just use the standard C90 carb, airbox etc. The latest ones have a different clutch casing, but an easy swap for the Honda one. You need to swap it or the footrests will not fit. I've run one for a few years and it's a great little engine.

Wow Dave never expecte dto run into you here the=ough I always found the name suspicious Wink

I managed to get 200 of my 300 euro for the engine back so it wasn't a complete loss.

The current engines shift forks are bent, it jumps out of 3rd gear into 2nd gear during around 5% of gear changes and even more strangely from 2nd to 1st during maybe 0.5% of changes.

Also theres a a horrible rattle from what I think is the cam chain anything over 40mph and it sounds like trying to cut a running engine in half with a chainsaw.

Using the screwdriver to the ear trick theres also a rattle from the big end suggesting it's on the way out too.

Need the 2nd engine to replace this one so I can rebuild it.

Me and wornsprockets were talking about sticking a c90 engine into your cb James.

It would probably be an improvement Smile

Nothing really, just pulled it out for new rings and stem seals. 46k on it and other than burning a little oil it was fine. I just got the 110 as others had done the swap for £160 all in. I just left it in! Think I might have a spare 12v C90 bottom end somewhere, i'll have a look early in the week as I'm off to Wales in the morning on the 500.
