Motor machine gun corps?

Post by wornsprokets on Wed 29 Jun 2016, 7:51 pm

Ive been working last two week in an old church in dublin(ive been commuting into city with the cb) the church is being renovated... so i was putting a protective wood box around a plaque on the wall...so i started to read what was on the plaque...it was in honour of a fallen soldier in great war.. but the soldier was from motor machine gun corps regiment?. And from dublin  .(i had never heard of this  name before so i had to look it up, it turns out... that  it was basically a soldier on motorbike&  soldier in side car with a vickers machine gun!  The motorbikes would be a royal enfield or triumph and members were sometimes recruited from motorcycle clubs! But the regiment didnt really work out as bikes got stuck in mud... (i dont really like talking about wars as its depressing and the out come is never good on either side) but i taught this was unusual and i never heard about it before. And its 100yr anniversary soon too.

The idea hasn't gone away. The Russian Ural combo (a copy of a pre-war BMW design I believe ) has a driven sidecar wheel and can carry guns through poor country

That's a brilliant video! I've never see a Ural getting air over jumps before. I also didn't know you could get one with a rocket launcher.

It's just a shame - I suspect some of the people/places they sell them too aren't exactly great.

For military use, 2 wheel drive is best.

There's gotta be an easier way of putting a reverse gear onto a vespa than that. Shocked
