Tappets need the feeler gauges were as shims need a micrometer afaik?

The cb has shims and not tappets, most people neglect their valve clearances as both cams have to come out although most of them are within spec, @badseeds @jerryfudd and @sullivj have had them done iirc.

Most people I've known to check the clearances, found about half were out of tolerance.  You need to replace the shims to correct the clearance.  PLENTY of info on here about how to do it.

When you know what shims you need, let me know.
