Mystery bolt

Ok, this may be a daft question but i'm putting the bike through MOT tomorrow affraid , and im bricking it. 
Does anyone have any idea where this screw thing has come from? its driving me mad
I found it in the compartment under the seat.

I think it might be one of the screws that holds the hinge bracket on at the back of the seat.

I far as I know there is no big self tapper anywhere on  a CB500
I owned 8 and worked on Loads more

Isn't there a couple of screws like that on the underside of the tail near the rear light?

just been to have a look at mine and there are two screws each side of the rear light body, but I didn't take one out to see if it is a self tapper and the heads seem a bit different (smaller) to the one on the photo

Yes there are two much smaller self tappers in the Tail plastics but MUCH smaller

my thoughts exactly and having pulled off near every d*mn bolt it doesn't that familiar - especially from under the seat area.

depending on size the only thing that sprung to mind was maybe one of the securing screws for the clock housing or fascia but looks too big.

Is yours a S or naked model?
