Unrestricting CB500 from 35kW

Post by Pugzilla on Mon 14 Dec 2015, 10:22 am

My restriction is up in a few months.
Will I notice much of an increase in power if I unrestrict it?

It's a theoretical increase of over 7 kW (~20%).
More top end power perhaps?

That power restrictions a joke. In uk u can do direct access when ur a certain age and get full power bike then. Irish goverments a joke. Theres not even bike m.o.t,   they dont give a shit about bikes ...  they love cyclists..  and they dont stop for traffic lights no vis no lights no wonder few been killed this year

I've had 100mph out of my 35KW cb500 on my dads private land of course. I would have gone for more but I ran out of road.

Don't care much about top speed.
Will i notice better acceleration in the powerband range of RPM?

It depends to an extent how your bike's restricted .
If you've got carb inlet washers you should notice an improvement over the whole range as the bike will be running on the correct air/fuel mixture once removed (some washer restriction kits also changed the carb jets for bigger ones to compensate so they may need changing too).
If however you have a throttle lock fitted, removing it will give you the ability to accelerate harder but the bike will run exactly the same until you twist the grip past where the cutoff was.

It only has restriction plates from Kickstart Engineering.

So I should notice an improvement across the rpm range?

can i just point out that you have to do both mod 1 and 2 again before you can do that. that's what pisses me off about the new licences.

Don't mean to be a mood kill

all these new tests are hard work, when I took mine the examiner sent you round the block and you could see him running from lamp post to lamp post with a clip board and you had to be careful not to run him over doing the emergency stop Laughing
