Fuel line

Hi silly question but does the fuel line from the fuel tank connect to the carbs from the top or from the bottom of the carbs.

Unless I am mistaken, it connects to the middle of the (brown) pipe that links each of the float bowls of the carbs (behind the idle adjuster).

Does the brown pipe need to be either up or down for the fuel line to be connected or does it matter.

From memory I think it usually points downwards, however this shouldn't matter as it is all below the bottom of the tank, so getting fuel in (even if slightly uphill) shouldn't be a problem.
