Sorry, I should have pointed out that I'm well-pleased that they've caught the b**tard!

I had my bicycle nicked from work last year, but it was caught on CCTV - Police soon identified the scumbag and although the bike was long gone by the time they got him, it did go to Court and he got 10 months.

It would be nice to get a similar result this time....!

That's good news & wouldn't worry too much about them asking for the money back. You weren't given the correct info or a choice at the time so the refund is still valid.

I wonder if they tracked him down on the forensics or caught him doing something dodgy & matched the fingerprints.

I think the they must have caught him doing something else since, as at the time the forensics were taken on my bike, I was told that they had not found any match/connection with any other outstanding crimes.

I have friend years ago his bike was stolen  an early f2 cbr 600 (it would been new enough then) it was robbed and passed on to a crime gang and rented out for robberies to other scum. ( my mate saw it one day but couldnt keep up) Anyway it was gone for nearly a year, wel there was a police check point and scum panicked , and took off with cops in pursuit anyway crashed bike smashing all plastics, anyway my mate gets phone call, saying his bike was recovered, but scum must been on probation.my mate was told if he didnt press charges he get 2 or 3k . My mate took cash and sold bike to breaker. Scum got away with it. But i dont think he stayed out of jail for long

Just been reading about tests nicking bikes and totally agree that bits should be removed from them. But j u st had a thought about using this magic water stuff on hidden areas?under seat bottom of tank and do on. Wouldn't stop em Bing nicked but if we all check  for markings BEFORE we hand ova dosh it might stop em being sold on and remove the profit margin? Just a thought

I'm not sure that many people steal CB500s to sell on for profit; mostly they are stolen by local naerdowell youths who want to give it ride for a 'laugh' and then dump it behind a bush or in a ditch.

Yeah some times , but again if some one wanted unpitted forks, undamage tank and side panels?,  as a whole there not worth much. But in parts there worth a bit. In ireland there stil makin 700 to 2000 euro, there well worth stealing for parts , i am afraid Shocked

On a partially related note, my mechanic was knocked off his cb500 and broke his wrist. Police were called and cleaned up the mess including taking the bike to the yard. Obviously he could go pick up because he broke his wrist and couldn't ride it. He didn't hear anything from the police and went back a few weeks later to find that his bike had been crushed! Apparently they only keep them for a short period of time and forgot to send him a letter informing him of that.

1 less perfectly good cb in the world now after that

Did they compensate him for crushing his bike? I'd be furious!
