Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Hi just hi bought myself a 2002 cb500 last week as a work horse for commuting decide to join this fab site for tips and hints as I'm bit of a tinkerer already had the carbs off for a clean out although they were pretty clean and overhauled the front brake  just a question on starting
Is it usual to start with the choke on at this time of year on a cold engine  don't know if it's a cb thing as I'm not familier with twins unless there the v type
As I also own a shadow 750

Hello and welcome!

Lovely place Barry, used to holiday there as a child.

Never used to use my choke but now i do as it means i dont have to rev it to keep it from stalling. In this warm weather its prob only on for 20-30 secs though.

Mine needs no choke at the moment.

Just a quick blip of the throttle will stop it from stalling, and ticks over nicely.

My bike always needed choke to start it but I would say check the spark plugs, I replaced mine and she runs better than ever especially when starting up with no choke and she sparks into life in less than a second of pressing the starter button also, welcome to the forum!

Mine needs choke for about the first minute, then no problem.

Same here, half a minute choke then stable albeit hesitant. This winter probably doing a carb clean to see. All else consumables renewed half year ago.

Hi and welcome, just joined today as well.

I'm on my third CB500. They've all needed a touch of choke for just a short time to get going unless the weathers warm, in which case they've started without (but a bit throttle blipping to get warm and ticking over).

That's *exactly* the same as mine... (and 'hello' to both of you!).

My '02 needs a little choke unless it's been in the sun (ha!). As above, only for a minute and I could just rev it instead. I wouldn't worry!
