Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Cush drive rubbers

Post by Guest on Fri 10 Jul 2015, 3:48 pm

Anyone knows if these will be the same for the CB500X and CB500R ?
Found some next to new at half new price and am planning for the winter overhaul of sprockets, chain, cush drive (sprocket hub) and drum brake.

Thanks

If you mean a CB500-X from 1999 then yes; if you mean a CB500X from 2013 onwards then no.

Indeed, after some searching I found the following latest models that do:

2003 CB750
1987 CMX450C
1986 VFR750F and VFR500F
1985 VF500
1984 VF1000

and others such as:

CBR900RR, XBR500, CB350, CB450, XBR500, ... but in general HONDA seems to have stopped using them from somewhere early 2000's.

Thanks again

Hmmm...

I'm thinking 'why that?' here.

I mean - motorbikes haven't changed that much over the years. Why all the sudden remove a drivetrain component whose job it is to take up shock? I have a hard time believing that Honda's engineers 20 years on in a sudden flash of revelation discover that they've been wrong all this time.

It's much more plausible that pressure from the bean counters has led to - ahem - cost optimizations...

@Stormbringer
Sorry my bad English here at work. I meant to say that somewhere after 2000 no use is made in new bikes for that particular cush drive rubber number 41241MA6000.

Same thing goes for me. It all makes sense now...
