Oil Change

Post by Jim164 on Thu 21 May 2015, 9:34 am

Hi There,

I am looking to do my first oil change on my CB this weekend , I have got the new oil filter to fit and will get some 10w40 oil to replace the existing Oil. My question is how much oil does the CB take , i have tried looking in the Hayes Manual but can't find it nor have I been able to find any threads on here.  If someone can atleast give me a ballpark figure as I also need to know how large a container to put under the bike.

Any advise / opinions on this would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hello mate

Oil change: 2.9 litres
Oil & filter: 3.1 litres

It's in Haynes in the specifications section of chapter 1.

No worries, it's not obvious when you're looking for it!

Wierd this. At my last oil and filter change I very carefully emptied the engine, including spinning it on the starter to remove anything in the oil galleries. It then took a full 4 litres to fill it to the mark.

Maybe your measuring jug is dyslexic.

Hardeharharhar Evil or Very Mad
However I had ensured that there was no remaining old oil in the engine by making certain that the oil galleries and pump body were thoroughly drained.
Not forgetting that the dipstick is not to be screwed in when checking oli level.

I guess it's possible, Haynes reckon 3.5 litres in a dry engine after a rebuild.

I change my oil every 4,000 miles. Honda specify 8,000 miles, but that seems way too high...... I've used HifloFiltro, Meiwa, Filtrex and Genuine Honda oil filters and never had an issue. Any half-decent semi-synthetic oil will do. I usually just buy whatever the best deal is on ebay, for instance. Change the filter at every oil change.
