Battery

Post by agour on Sat 13 Dec 2014, 4:59 pm

Hey,

I was recently given a CB500X ('99 I think). I'm trying to find the right battery for it.

I bought a YTX9 BS battery, but it doesn't fit as it as it seems to be too tall. Any recommendations of what battery model *should* be correct?

I found a similar sized battery (but 12mm shorter) that should do the job, but I wanted to check to see if anyone knew the part number of the proper battery first?

Cheers!

That should be the right model battery - but in my opinion if you do have to buy another get a MotoBatt one.

I believe the correct battery is YTX9-BS - that the Yuasa number, you should be able to cross-reference that to whatever battery you want.

As mentioned, there are better and worse makes of battery - this is less of a problem if you use the bike every day (or even every week) but may be more significant if you ride less frequently.

Happy to follow the advice and order the Motobatt version however on the photograph(of the Motobatt) the polarity is reversed. On my bike the positive is on the nearside with the terminals towards the rear of the bike???

drop them a mail and ask, I've yet to get one for the cb500 as I have more pressing things like putting it back together but I got one for my CBF and it's great.

It's not too uncommon for things like batteries on ebay to just have a 'generic' image instead of the correct one for the make and model of bike.
The fact that the top & side images in  jerryfudd's link have oposite polarities lend me to think they're dirrerent batteries.

The actual MotoBatt part number is MBTX9U and it has 4 terminals on top to which you just screw the terminal connector blocks into and then the wire screws into the blocks - is their 'quad flex' technology which allows the same battery to service multiple different bikes.

So, if the terminals are the wrong way round just turn the battery around Very Happy

Clever idea. Wonder why more suppliers don't do the same.

I'm afraid batteries aren't available anymore - these bikes have been out of production since 2003. I'll take the bike off your hands, as a favour. No need to thank me.

Wow. That hurts.

I was trying to be a decent resident of this parish. I hope you accidentally bash your thumb with my fork-seal driver Laughing
