Cancelled Europe trip because of bent fork!? :(

Post by Szabi on Thu 15 May 2014, 2:09 pm

Yes, it's true...

I was meant to leave this Saturday for Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary -visit relatives- then on the way back via Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland and back Germany, etc

Few days ago I was replacing my fork oil, which all went well until I had to place the wheel back. Then I realised that the wheel won't fit... hmmm... after further investigation I found out that my right fork (brake) is bent. Eventually I've managed to fit everything back together, but as a result of this, the bike pulls to the right but most importantly it pulls even stronger when I apply the front brake.

I have tried to adjust the forks in many ways, but no joy... Sad

I will give a last chance today after work and bend the fork back by hand somehow...

Any suggestions maybe?? Anybody has a spare fork I can collect en route?

I have a spare pair of forks if you need one. I live in Nottingham. Any use?

Hey Basil,

Just sent you a message.

So I just finished in the garage and it seems I've managed to fix the bike temporarily. It now rides straight with no hands on the bar and when I apply the brake, it also goes straight and doesn't pull anywhere Smile I will however test it properly tomorrow and hopefully later I can upload some CB500 holiday photos Smile

Did you manage the trip OK? I suspect that you can lash something together to make it work, but it isn't ideal...

Eternally troubled,

Luckly the fork was bent quite high, so I just pushed the forks higher in the yoke, so now it's sort of straight... I went through so far France, Belgium, Germany, Austria and (I skipped Slovenia) now currently in Hungary. Next week I will carry on towards Slovakia, Czech, Poland, Germany, etc

The bike is doing OK, but there will be some work to do when I'm back.

Excellent, glad to hear it is going OK.

If the fork bend is minor and hasn't 'creased' the chrome then you can sometimes get them straightened - might be worth asking at your local motorcycle garage.

If it is bad then it would be better to get a new one...

Jonny, CB500 around Europe is a piece of cake Wink Last year I rode my (now sold) Honda C90 from the UK to Moscow and then through Finland, Sweden, etc back to the UK Very Happy The original plan was to reach Mongolia, which unfortunately didn`t work out, but still...

Here are some photos from that trip:

Now, that trip was fun Smile
