Engine - paint colour code?

Post by stormbringer on Wed 17 Apr 2013, 9:12 am

I'd like to repaint the engine on my CB500Y (2001) - or at least the left and right hand engine covers. Previous owner sprayed them with silver, and this clearly isn't the original colour.
I recollect 'NH-35M Cloud silver metallic' as being the engine colour used for early-seventies-Honda engines. But that was before Honda started using RAL-colourcoding. Dunno what they used in 2001.
Anyone?

The bike is azure blue with gold wheels.

I suggest that the only logical way to go would be to spray it Gold... Very Happy

post is old i know, but i want to add that you can use MOTIP#55200 which is quality car paint and is very very similar to the original colour of the engine.
i paid about 6£ at beckmann paint store in denmark.

Hi,

Did you end up respraying the engine? I'm having second thoughts about doing mine in PJ1 black - not just that its a whole lot of black with the black frame and black paint also that its £13 a can or there abouts so am now thinking of trying to match the stock colour.

I know about RS paints but was thinking of something a bit easier to come by and not as expensive....

I saw someone used Hycote Aluminum

another for Halfords Aluminum

and I know that Autotek goes on nicely

Can anyone recommend the best of these 3 in terms of coverage, wear and tear and closeness to the original engine colour? or even another brand I haven't mentioned but should be looking at???

I've only used the Hycote, must be over 12 months ago now on one of my casings and its still looking good with no signs of flaking ect.
The colour is more "silvery" than the original engine paint but not noticeable until you took a real close look (but i guess this wont matter if you were gonna paint the whole thing).
