wanted; radiator and fan

Post by Vexx on Sat 16 Feb 2013, 10:07 pm

Howdy folks,
I'm after a decent radiator - preferably with fan,
for a CB500v.
Mine thinks it's a steam sauna....
Thanks all!

If you can stretch to the extra cash I would buy a new pattern one. £120 on ebay.
I bought one from a breaker when the rad went on mine and it was a complete waste of money; the rad fan mountings were shot and it looked as though someone had been bashing the fins with a hammer.

Thanks for the advice.. I thought it was going to be simple to get a replacement, but it seems the rad isn't the CB's strongpoint - some of the s/h ones look worse than mine..
unfortunately, I don't have £120 for a new one!
Will do some head scratching and come up with a Plan C Very Happy
It may be possible to fix mine....
cheers all,

Well good luck with it Vexx, and for God's sake don't put rad-weld in it! It clogs the hose to the expansion bottle. As I found out... Embarassed

There are some firms about that'll repair your current rad though I don't know what sort of prices they charge.

Given the CB's engine runs cool anyway, you could probably get away with just getting the leaking channel brazed closed.

Thanks for the warning re radweld.

A buddy who knows about these things had a look at the rad, reckons it may only be a small leak. If I can find the leak and it does turn out to be only small, I may look in to fixing it.. nothing to loose eh?!

Though I shan't turn down the offer of a decent rad!

hey, no worries Julian - I appreciate your trying

Very Happy

I'm going to explore sorting my rad out.. either it'll work, or by the time I've found it doesn't, I could be able to afford a new one!! Either way, I'm a winner... Rolling Eyes Laughing

Going to service the CB in the meantime Very Happy

Thanks folks, appreciate your help.
