Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Good mechanic.

Post by BC3841 on Wed 18 Jul 2012, 10:19 pm

I recently had a new Continental rear tyre fitted to my 2002 CB500S for £100, all inclusive at Dave Wilkins (davewilkinsmotorcycles.co.uk) He and his mate John are very friendly and did a very good job, not charging me a penny for a number of other small jobs that needed doing. I will definitely go back to them if anything else is needed, a 70 mile journey (return). Their address is: 59 Jasmine Grove, London SE20 8JY, tele: 0208 249 7940.

Been using this guy for a while and would second what the OP said.
Also worth noting that Dave rides a CB500 himself so he has lots of model specific knowledge  cheers

He is a good bloke. He often hangs out on the 'other' (Bikers Oracle) forum, but I won't hold that against him Smile

Just booked an appointment with him to solve my cooling issue on my CB500 for Tuesday. Seems to think radiator blocked / head gasket.

Cheers BC, hope so. After a 20 minute ride home (5 miles) from work tonight, it dripped coolant too!

Let us know what the fault was Dext37, after Dave's cleared it, and I'll add it to my list!

Just got back from Dave's. Really good experience: I talked him through the problem that I'm experiencing, I could see his head ticking over what I was saying. He then said that my engine sounded good and that my fan and thermostat where in good condition.

I buggered off for a bit and left him too it for a good 90 mins, when I came back he said my head gasket was gone (gonna be about £45-£50 with the discount I can get through working in the trade) and would be a bout 4-5 hrs labour.

He was helpful in giving me good advice and did sterling work putting the bits back on my bike.

In total he charged me £40 for the time and extra coolant.

I'll be going back to him, that is for sure.

His CB500 on a N plate (drum rear brake) has about 135,000 miles on it he said!

A must if you live within a 40 mile radius!

No worries Dave.

Rocker cover and seals arrived today, just waiting for the head gasket. Cost £60 in total with discount from Honda directly.

Really good experience and see you soon.
